Most of the inspiration for the floral series comes from standing in my Santa Fe studio and looking through the French doors to the landscape beyond. The vertical white bands in the paintings are created by using masking tape and resemble windowpanes. The horizontal and vertical bands of white and color frame the landscape space and separate the composition into multiple vignettes or moments of time. Slightly altered sequences of events are unified in the infinite space of the composition.

The rich transparencies of watercolors overlap and create mysterious veils of atmosphere. Bands dissolve and reappear to add multiple layers of visual depth with two-dimensional surface. The result is a spontaneous recognition of landscape and flora motifs in a new window.
